10日間、コペンハーゲン、バーゼル、フランクフルトを旅しました。
今回の旅の目的のひとつは撮影でしたが、旅先で過ごす時間の多くは、街を歩き、建築を見て、家具に触れ、その土地の空気を感じることに使いました。靴とは直接関係のないものも、ものづくりをする上では大切なインプットになります。今回は、10日間の旅の中で特に印象に残った場所やものを、いくつか紹介します。

今回の旅の足元から、
まずは NOMAD LOAFER。
コペンハーゲンで滞在したのは、NOBIS HOTEL COPENHAGEN。
ミニマルな空間の中に、素材やディテールへのこだわりが随所に感じられるホテルでした。
客室に置かれていたミニバーのメニューを収めるレザーホルダーなど、ちょっとしたところにも革が使われていて、使い込まれたその表情から、改めて革という素材の良さを感じました。 メインダイニングは朝も夜も穏やかな空気が流れていて、ホテルで過ごす時間そのものが、今回の旅の楽しみのひとつになりました。

物価の高さでも知られるコペンハーゲン。
事前にInstagramなどで紹介されている店もいくつか調べていましたが、結局一番満足したのは、現地のLEICAのスタッフに教えてもらったFABRO PASTAでした。 比較的リーズナブルで、シンプルだけどとにかく美味しい。 コペンハーゲンで「どこで食べる？」と聞かれたら、まずおすすめしたい一軒です。

Basel / Vitra Campus
バーゼルからトラムとバスを乗り継いで約45分。
スイスとドイツの国境に近いヴァイル・アム・ラインにある、Vitra Campusへ。 広大な敷地には、家具の生産施設だけでなく、世界を代表する建築家たちによる建築が点在しています。
フランク・ゲーリーによるVitra Design Museum、ザハ・ハディドによる消防署、1953年にジャン・プルーヴェがデザインしたガソリンスタンド。 そして日本からは、安藤忠雄が初めて海外で手掛けた建築となったConference Pavilionもあります。
家具の生産工場でありながら、同時に建築やデザインを体験する場所でもある。
単に名作家具を見るだけではなく、建築、家具、素材、機能、それぞれがどう共存しているのかを見ることができるのがVitra Campusの面白さでした。 デザインを考える上での視点やアイデアも多く、今回の旅の中でも特に刺激を受けた場所です。 訪れるなら、建築について詳しく知ることのできるCampus Tourもおすすめです。

最後はドイツの高速鉄道ICEでフランクフルトへ。
電気シェーバーなどで日本でも馴染みのあるBRAUNは、ドイツの工業デザインを語る上で欠かせない存在。 そのデザインを手がけ、数々の名作を世に送り出したデザイナーDieter Ramsの歴史的なプロダクトを展示で見た後、フランクフルトの街を散策し、帰路につきました。
商談、撮影、ミュージアム巡り。盛り沢山な10日間でしたが、普段とは違う場所でさまざまなデザインや文化に触れることのできた、学びの多い旅になりました。
そして今回の旅では、この秋に向けた新しいプロダクトの撮影も行いました。次回から、その背景について少しずつ紹介していきます。
This Journey

Over eight days, we traveled through Copenhagen, Basel, and Frankfurt.
One of the purposes of this trip was photography, but much of our time was spent walking through the cities, experiencing architecture and furniture, and simply taking in the atmosphere of each place.
Even things that aren't directly related to shoes can become an important part of the way we create.
Here are a few places and things that stayed with us from the journey.
We brought three pairs of shoes with us on this trip.
First, the NOMAD LOAFER.
In Copenhagen, we stayed at NOBIS HOTEL COPENHAGEN.
The hotel has a minimal atmosphere, with careful attention to materials and details throughout.
Leather appeared even in small details, such as the minibar menu in the room. Seeing the character it had developed through use reminded us once again of the beauty of leather as a material.
The main dining room had a calm atmosphere both in the morning and at night, and the time spent at the hotel became one of the pleasures of the journey.

Copenhagen is known as one of the most expensive cities in the world.
We had researched several restaurants through Instagram and other recommendations before arriving, but in the end, our favorite was FABRO PASTA — a place recommended to us by a local camera shop staff member.
Simple, relatively affordable, and above all, very good.
If someone asked us where to eat in Copenhagen, this would be one of the first places we'd recommend.

From Basel, it takes around 45 minutes by tram and bus to reach Vitra Campus.
Located in Weil am Rhein, Germany, close to the Swiss border, the expansive campus brings together furniture production, architecture, and design in one place.
Across the campus are buildings by some of the world's most influential architects: the Vitra Design Museum by Frank Gehry, the Fire Station by Zaha Hadid, a petrol station designed by Jean Prouvé in 1953, and the Conference Pavilion by Tadao Ando, his first architectural project outside Japan.
Vitra Campus is both a working production site and a place to experience architecture and design.
What interested us wasn't simply seeing iconic pieces of furniture, but observing how architecture, furniture, materials, and function exist together.
It offered many different perspectives on design and gave us plenty of ideas to take home.

For the final part of the journey, we traveled to Frankfurt on Germany's high-speed ICE train.
Germany naturally brought BRAUN to mind.
After seeing an exhibition of historic products designed by Dieter Rams, we spent some time walking through the city before beginning our journey home.
Meetings, photography, museums.
It was a full eight days, but being away from our everyday surroundings and experiencing different approaches to design and culture gave us plenty to think about.
During this journey, we also photographed some new products for the coming autumn.
